Good morning everyone (or afternoon ? evening?) today is my top 5 drugstore highlighters. The drugstore has been upping their highlighter game. I still think that it is rather difficult to find a great highlighter at the drugstore. It’s more of a hit or miss situation with drugstore highlighters. I don’t feel that effort should be made into using a product.
I shouldn’t have to take a spoolie and scrape the top layer off a product to make the pigmentation show on my skin. To me that means that the product is lackluster and belongs in the trash. All of the highlighters here require no effort to get them to show up. I wanted to include various finishes and intensities: I’m aware of the fact that not everyone loves the saturated highlighter look.
Maybelline Expert Wear Eyeshadow in The Glo Down
I’m aware that this is not marketed as a highlighter. The color is a warm icy gold, that gives a wet looking appearance to the skin. The powder is smooth and doesn’t look chunky. It has a similar look to highlighters like ABH so hollywood, M.A.C Oh Darling, and Becca Champagne Pop. If you’re a fan of the baked gelee formula, you can use setting spray to intensify the powder..
Nyx Cosmetics Bright Idea Illuminating Stick in Lavender Lust
I’m not the biggest cream highlighter fan. Considering the amount of powder I use on my face, when I layer cream products on top, they can look rather odd. I only use this product when I don’t powder my face. I use this on the more natural makeup days. I personally love this lavender color, but Nyx makes different colors in this cream highlighter line. You don’t have to worry about finding a color that fits your skin tone.
Essence Pure Nude Highlighter
This is the most natural powder here. It gives a beautiful satin glow to your cheeks. It’s not a crazy strip of metallic highlight. It gives that glow from within look, that I love to wear during the daytime. This highlighter is a exact dupe of M.A.C Faintly Fabulous MSF, which is my one of my favorite highlighters.
Wet n’ Wild Shimmering Palette in Boozy Brunch
This was one of the only highlighters from the drugstore that I actually liked. The color is perfect if you’re of a more golden or warm complexion. If you have moderately to extremely fair skin, this will be too dark for you. If your complexion is the richest of cocoa, I can see this pulling too cool. It isn’t as golden as The Glo Down, if you’re into a muted gold this one is perfect.
Nyx Cosmetics Strobe of Genius Palette
I’m counting this as a single highlighter product because this is a palette and you aren’t able to pick any of these up individually. This is the drugstore equivalent of a glow kit. It is quite expensive considering that it is a drugstore product. If you purchase this from Ulta, they always has a $3.50 OFF a $15 dollar purchase. This palette also has some unique powders that aren’t typically seen at the drugstore.
