With age, comes wisdom (& unsolicited advice from nosy old ladies) and if you’re like me and nearing the ripe old age of 20… you pick up a few beauty tips along the way. I’ve been wearing makeup for almost 8 years and have picked up some beauty advice. Today I am here to share them with you. Most of these are from watching videos & some are tips/tricks I discovered myself.
Don’t Overpluck Your Eyebrows
I went through a pencil thin eyebrow phase my sophomore year of high school (shudders) and filled them in with the darkest brown, borderline black eyebrow pencil. I would brush black mascara on top, to set it. Please don’t over tweeze, cherish your eyebrows because they never grow back the same.
Make Sure to Completely Wash Off All Mascara
I learned this the hard way. It was after a party my friends house & she didn’t have any makeup remover, so had to use dove soap. The next morning as I rubbed my eye… four or five eyelashes came off. It’s also super gross to not wash off your mascara because your risking eye infections or styes. I’ve been using the same eye makeup remover for years, which is the cvs brand oil free eye makeup remover.
Using Contour Powders as Eyeshadows
I’ve been doing this since I saw a video of Hrush Achemyan doing Kylie Jenner’s makeup for her birthday. She used some the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Powders as shadows and I loved the result on Kylie, so I picked up a few contour powders & fell in love with the way the looked on the eyes. Contour powders are meant to give the effect of shadows on the face, so it creates a similar effect on the eyes. If you’re into fuss free eye makeup that’s going to take little time, but still look good, try using contour powders on the eyes.
Taylor Swift Taught Me How To Do Winged Eyeliner
YEP, you read that correctly. Miss Swift taught me how to do winged eyeliner. I watched an interview that she did with Keds (when she was the face of Keds) and she mentioned how she did her eyeliner. Since I saw that interview, winged eyeliner has been a breeze. I make a line like I’m dragging it from the lower lash and do a triangle, fill it in & bada boom! you have winged eyeliner.
DIY: Curly Hair Mask
I was typing up on the Google machine, hair masks for dry hair & was just reasearching ingredients that worked for dry, colored treated hair & made up my own little concoction.
Ingredients (adjust measurements for how long your hair is. My hair is long, so I need more)
- 2 Cups of Apple Cider Vinegar
- 1/4 Cup of Almond Oil
- 1/4 Cup of Coconut Oil
- 1/4 Cup of Castor Oil
- 3 Tablespoons of Honey
- 2 Teaspoons of Cinnamon
Leave on for 30-40 minutes & throughly wash with a clarifying shampoo.
Mix Face Oil with Clay Mask
I discovered this when I wanted to do a clay mask, but hated how dry it made my skin feel after. I took a small bowl, poured some of my favorite clay mask in & added a few drops of face oil and mixed it in with the mask. If you try this, make sure to throughly mix in the face oil. The mask will take longer to dry, but when you wash your face, it’s going to feel moisturized & look supple.
