Review | Nyx Warm Neutral Ultimate Palette

I am so surprised at how much I actually like this product. I saw it on Ulta’s website and picked it up on a whim. It’s not that I don’t think eyeshadow palettes from the drugstore are bad. I just feel like they’re more of a gamble than a palette you would get at M.A.C or Sephora. Not that there isn’t any bad mid to high-end palettes out there because there is, (I’m looking at you Too Faced La Grand Palais)  but I’m more likely to get an eyeshadow palette that is good from these places.

I absolutely love Nyx Cosmetics, I was using their products in Junior High & High School. I remember using the glitter mania powders, champagne & caviar palette, & those tinted lip spa balms. Nyx has never been a brand that I go to for eyeshadow. I do really like the love in paris palettes, which are now $5. I think I might have reviews on those palettes on this blog.

I was shopping online at 3 in the morning and realized I had a 20% off coupon for Ulta. I am a platinum member, so I could also use those 20% off coupons for prestige items, not just drugstore. Every year around spring time, Nyx comes out with a ton of new products and I wanted to try out some of the new things that were catching my eye & picked up some of my old faves (proof it eyeshadow primer is amazing, better than Urban Decay) one of the things I picked up was this palette. This one is the warm neutral palette and Nyx also has a Smokey, Cool & Brights Palette. Each palette is $18.99, but Ulta always has coupons & BOGO going on, you wouldn’t have to pay full price for this palette.

I don’t think that $18.99 is insane for an eyeshadow palette, considering that there is 16 eyeshadows in the palette, which brings each eyeshadow a little bit over $1. It makes it less painful to buy something that is “up there” in price for drugstore. I’m not planning on buying any of the other 3 palettes. I wouldn’t use any of those regularly, so it wouldn’t be worth it to get them.

Texture: The matte eyeshadows do have a powdery texture. This means that you have to tap off your brush as much as possible to make sure you don’t have fall out. The shimmery eyeshadows have a smoother texture.

Pigmentation: I was pleasantly surprised by how much pigmentation these eyeshadows have. The mattes do need to be built up, but nothing insane. Some of the shimmers have a more metallic finish. You could always spray some Fix+ to make the shimmers more intense.

Staying Power:  As I have previously stated on other eyeshadow review here on my blog, I do not test eyeshadows without a primer. The reason for that is because I have oily eyelids and nothing lasts more than 1-2 hours without primer. I don’t feel that it would give me accurate results. I do use a primer and eyelid base with most (if not all) of my eyeshadows. The eyeshadows lasted 7 hours before I started to notice them fading slightly.

Color Selection: The Nyx team really did a good job at picking colors for this palette. None of them are too close in color, so every eyeshadow in this palette is unique to themselves. The variety of colors also allows for looks that aren’t going to appear the same on the eyes. The selection of shades can also be used in various looks. I could do something simple or an intense red smokey eye. I don’t feel that this palette is missing any type of color.

My Thoughts: I recommend this palette to people that want a good selection of eyeshadows and not break the bank. This is one of the best eyeshadow palettes from the drusgtore. The fact that they have other palettes with different color scheme is awesome, because everyone can find a palette that they like.

Grade: B

Let me know if you’ve tried any of the other palettes, I would love to know what you think of them. I’m interested in trying the smokey palette, but I’m not sure if I need it.

♥XOXO♥, Crystal Emme
